── REGULATORY UPDATE · CLASS A ICI

Ontario's Electricity Market Just Changed

Ontario has opened the door to new savings for large energy users. Updated regulations, effective July 1, 2025, let ICI participants lock in off-site renewable supply through Corporate PPAs — cutting Global Adjustment costs, securing long-term prices, and earning clean energy credits to support sustainability goals.

JULY 1, 2025

REGULATIONS NOW IN EFFECT

Class A ICI market participants can now use Corporate PPAs with renewable generators to offset facility demand during the top 5 peak hours. This arrangement is treated as behind-the-meter — slashing peak demand factors and Global Adjustment charges.

── WHAT’S NEW FOR ICI CLASS A

Three structural changes. One direct path to lower electricity costs.

Reduce Global Adjustment costs

A C-PPA can help reduce exposure to both market price volatility and rising system costs, including the Global Adjustment, giving your facility greater predictability in a period of structural cost escalation.

Support clean local generation

The new rules facilitate growth of clean energy generation — including wind, solar, small hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal. Environmental attributes such as RECs and Ontario Clean Energy Credits are earned for every MWh generated.

No up-front cost

A Corporate PPA works as a fixed-price energy supply agreement — no capital investment, no on-site construction, no equipment to build or buy.
